Product Description

High-quality rope and slings are anything but cheap, and protecting them is always a good idea. The same even applies to steel wire rope and chain, which many think of as cut-proof but often can benefit from the protection offered by wear pad material such as this. Unlike common wear pads that are cut-to-length at 12" or 18" in length, we sell this nylon chafe sleeve by the foot. Because it is hollow / tubular, it can be installed in length along the body of your rope, cable or chain and it works as a fixed or movable / sliding protection product. It is used commonly on Ultrex Rope, Ultrex Winch Lines and security chain (many use it as a buffer between their security chain and the item they are securing, such as a motorcycle). Keep in mind that if you want this chafe sleeve for use on a spliced product, it must be installed prior to splicing. It also works well installed on spliced eyes should you elect not to use a common steel or plastic thimble.

Note: This smallest size of chafe sleeve we offer is generally used on synthetic ropes, especially Ultrex, in 5/16" and 3/8" diameters. This chafe sleeve is too small to fit any of our security chain products.

* Rope sold separately.

Will this sleeve fit over 1/2" nylon braid dock lines, or would it be too tight to slip it on?
1 Answer
This sleeve will indeed slide on the body of the rope (we tried it), but it is a rather tight fit. If the rope is spliced or has knots, or has simply swelled up due to moisture, the sleeve "might" be too tight.

I have a 5/8" synthetic rope that I need to protect from chafing on a winch drum. I would need about 40 feet, but I don't think it needs to be too loose. Opinions?
1 Answer
The inside diameter of this chafe sleeve is only about 1/2" so it would be too small. We might be able to special order you one 40ft section. If you're interested, please call our store @ 503-399-7037 and someone from the sales counter can assist you.

Will this work with 3/16" synthetic winch line?
1 Answer
This chafe sleeve will certainly fit over the 3/16" line, yes, but it will likely seem a little loose and oversized. This may not matter, unless you plan to spool the line with the chafe sleeve installed.
