What Kind Of Chain Is This?
This is Pewag's original design for security chain, which we have been selling for years now. It is surface hardened to 62 HRC Min. which makes it very hard to cut. This chain is in the "sweet spot" in terms of size and toughness, being much bigger than the 9/32" chain yet noticeably smaller than the 1/2" chain. This chain is extremely hard to cut (check out our YouTube videos) and works well for all kinds of equipment whether on the jobsite or at home. For urban environments, you may want to check out the smaller 9/32" size (think bicycles).
How Is This Chain Different From The 3012 Chain? For starters, the 3012 chain is no longer available. It is actually a traction chain that was not originally designed for security with a plain finish that was vulnerable to surface rust. The 3012 chain is also bigger at 12mm in diameter. While this chain is hardened 10% deep, the 3012 chain is hardened 6% deep. From a cosmetic perspective, this chain is silver while the 3012 chain is black.
What About The Lock?
A true, high-security padlock made to work with square security chain. Its heavy-duty design will certainly be a deterrent to any potential thief. This beefy padlock weighs almost 2.5 lbs. You may not want to put it in your pocket, but you'll be happy to secure your precious equipment with it. The brass lock body is 3mm thick and hardened to 50 HRC. The shackle / pin is 0.43" and is nickel-plated. The lock also ships with three single sided keys designed to activate the 5-tumbler design, and the keyhole is protected with anti-drill steel. This lock works 3/8", 7/16" and 1/2" security chain.
Keyed Different vs. Keyed Alike
If you plan to buy just one kit, or if you want multiple kits where each lock takes a different key, then choose locks that are "Keyed Different". If you want to buy multiple kits (perhaps for use at one facility) and you want all locks to take the same key, then choose "Keyed Alike".
