Product Description

What Kind Of Chain Is This?
Perhaps you've heard of Pewag's now famous "3012" chain. Well, that chain is a traction chain, and while it makes for a very strong and imposing security chain, it is prone to surface rust. It has no rust-prohibitive finish on it, because whatever surface rust accumulates really makes no difference in its service life as a traction chain. But since so many people have adopted 3012 as a security chain, Pewag realized it could be even better with an anti-corrosion finish. It took a few months, but now we finally have this new version of 1/2" security chain by Pewag. Same hardness, same toughness, now with an electro-galvanized finish. You may already be familiar with Pewag's 3/8" Square Case Hardened Security Chain--we literally sell a ton of it. This chain is very similar, except it's 2 mm larger (12 mm or 0.472" to be exact). This makes it beefier and even tougher to cut. But don't worry, if you still want the original 3012 1/2" Black Security Chain, we still offer it.

This Is The Chain You've Been Hearing About
Whether on YouTube (click on the Video tab), a website forum or just word of mouth, you may have already heard about this chain. It's in high demand and available to you right here from Westech Rigging Supply.

What About The Lock?
This is Pewag's newest Viro padlock, which was hand picked to work with their 1/2" security chain--it's a true, high-security padlock, not something from the local hardware store. Its beefy design will certainly be a deterrent to any potential thief--it weighs just over 2 lbs. You may not want to put it in your pocket, but you'll be happy to secure your precious equipment with it. The lock body is made from a combination of brass and hardened steel that not only looks good, but also holds up well to the elements. Supplied with two Viro Top Security profile nickel-plated brass keys. We know you will be impressed!

  • Square, case-hardened links
  • Cannot be cut with bolt cutters--square link shape does not allow bolt cutters to get a proper bite, which prevents them from cutting the chain
  • Requires tremendous effort to cut, a great theft deterrent
  • Electro-galvanized finish for corrosion protection
  • Chain Hardness: 62 HRC Min.
  • Heavy-duty padlock protects the lock pin from being accessed, forcing a potential thief to deal with the hardened security chain
  • Lock body is electro-galvanized for corrosion protection, very durable, heavy-duty design

Questions & Answers

1 Question & 1 Answer
from Visalia, CA asked:

What is the better lock for 1/2" chain--the Viro or the Laclede?
1 Answer
Most would agree the Viro locks are of a higher overall quality. Most also agree that they are more pick-resistant, however, Laclede's newest locks are shipping with dimpled keys, which makes a huge difference. Both are good locks, but we would give the edge still to Viro.

Securing Personal Items!

Pewag 1/2" (12mm) Security Chain Kit - 10 ft Chain & Viro Padlock secures my generators to my travel trailer A-Frame. Definitely secures my Harley just by feeding cable through the front rim. The nylon sheathing prevents scratching of secured items. Took a bit of effort to feed chain through nylon sheathing. The chain & lock will intimidate the casual thief. It will keep a pro very very busy for quite a while.
ProsSecure setup.

This is for the trailer to replace my stolen one. I could not be happier. I wanted the 1/2" just to make it a little harder for them and it will. Nothing can stand up to an angle grinder, but this does better than any, and as PART of a security system--I added a tire boot and a top shelf hitch baffle--I sleep well and my trailer stays home.
ProsYou can not do better. Stop looking. Seems expensive but it works and is cheaper than buying a new trailer. My neighbor got the 3/8's but there is a HUGE difference in that and the 1/2". It almost looks like a cartoon it's so big. Take a dollar bill out of your pocket and look at it. In that space, half inch gives you (3) links. It almost looks like a cartoon.
ConsI struggled a lot over the 2 types of locks and watched a LOT of reviews. My ordering was delayed until someone was there during hours so I could ask questions about the difference. The "image shown may be a stock photo and is for reference only" tag on the description doesn't help that problem any. I went with the Viro and am very satisfied with the decision.
