Product Description

What Kind Of Chain Is This?
Perhaps you've heard of Pewag's now famous "3012" chain. Well, that chain is no longer available. It is a traction chain, and while it makes for a very strong and imposing security chain, it is prone to surface rust. It has no rust-prohibitive finish on it, because whatever surface rust accumulates really makes no difference in its service life as a traction chain. But since so many people adopted 3012 as a security chain, Pewag realized it could be even better with an anti-corrosion finish. Enter Pewag's new and improved 1/2" Security Chain--#56847. Same hardness, same toughness, now with an electro-galvanized finish. You may already be familiar with Pewag's 3/8" Square Case Hardened Security Chain--we literally sell a ton of it. This chain (#56847) is very similar, except it's 2mm larger (12mm or 0.472" to be exact). This makes it beefier and even tougher to cut.

This Is The Chain You've Been Hearing About
Whether on YouTube (click on the Video tab), a website forum or just word of mouth, you may have already heard about this chain. It's in high demand and available to you right here from Westech Rigging Supply.

What About The Lock?
This is Pewag's newest Viro padlock, which was hand picked to work with their 1/2" security chain--it's a true, high-security padlock, not something from the local hardware store. Its beefy design will certainly be a deterrent to any potential thief--it weighs just over 2 lbs. You may not want to put it in your pocket, but you'll be happy to secure your precious equipment with it. The lock body is made from a combination of brass and hardened steel that not only looks good, but also holds up well to the elements. Supplied with two Viro Top Security profile nickel-plated brass keys. We know you will be impressed!

  • Square, case-hardened links
  • Cannot be cut with bolt cutters--square link shape does not allow bolt cutters to get a proper bite, which prevents them from cutting the chain
  • Requires tremendous effort to cut, a great theft deterrent
  • Electro-galvanized finish for corrosion protection
  • Chain Hardness: 62 HRC Min.
  • Heavy-duty padlock protects the lock pin from being accessed, forcing a potential thief to deal with the hardened security chain
  • Lock body is electro-galvanized for corrosion protection, very durable, heavy-duty design

Can you get extra keys?
1 Answer
Yes, extra keys for this lock can be purchased here. These are key "blanks" and will need to be cut by a local locksmith after purchase. Be advised that the dimple pattern on these keys--part of what makes this lock extra secure--requires special equipment to replicate and is not something that every locksmith can do.

Great Chain & Lock for Trailer Security
September 19, 2019
Purchased two sets of the chain and Viro lock for securing trailer wheel to the boat frame; chain and lock are a great pair for this task. *You may want or need 4 feet of the chain for yours; I can make mine work with 3 feet but 4 feet would have made it easier,

Great Quality you can Feel and Perfect length for a bigger bicycle.
May 22, 2018
3ft is really the perfect length to get my frame and back tire on my bicycle secured to the rack. I have a bigger bicycle (Specialized Roll Sport with the 650b 2.3" tires) so I went with the 3ft instead of 2ft and was glad I did. I bet even if my bike was a fat tire I could get the chain around...plenty of room. The nylon sleeve I got with it is super thick and provides great protection. I was worried it would be too thin but wow it is thick! The Viro lock is fantastic quality that you can feel. I am glad I went with this lock. The combo is great for anyone who really wants a top notch lock up for their bike.
ProsFast shipping; great packaging, no really you can tell when a company tapes the ends so water doesn't get in knows what they are doing; great customer service; the chain is heavy and imposing in person so is the Viro lock. Even the Key is double the thickness of normal lock keys so it feels great...trust me you won't regret getting this combo.
ConsSome would say weight is a con but if you wrap the chain around the bicycle frame while you ride you can barely notice the weight difference. No Con in my book.
