I have a Jameson 18' pole saw set-up.  Which blade would be better for this application- the Ichiban or the Ichigeki?  I have both as hand saws, and was thinking that since the Ichigeki is stiffer it might be a better choice.  I'd appreciate your opinion, please.
1 Answer
Either would work well.  Overall the Ichiban is considered a higher quality, sharper and longer-lasting blade, which should perform better between the two.

I am missing the piece that clips into the scabbard. Any chance I can get that part?

I'm sorry, but we do not carry that part.

What is the difference between the red and black handle saw and the green and black handle saw?
1 Answer
The real difference is the blade.  The green handle saw (Ichiban) has a superior blade that should cut faster and last longer, and this is reflected in the price.  Still, the red handle saw (Ichigeki) is far more popular, probably because you can almost buy two for the price of one by comparison.  We find both saws perform well, but if you want a true high-quality saw blade, the Ichiban is your best choice.

Great saw
February 20, 2021
Good strong saw, sharp as hell. I was in a tree cutting a branch above me an the saw fell and juuuuuust tapped my arm. Two weeks later the wound is healing nicely. I never thought the saw was THAT sharp.
Pros
  • Lightweight, sharp, durable.
Cons
  • Needs to be between $5 and $10 cheeper. Replacement blades should be no more than $20.

Basically as good as the 13" ZUBAT
January 16, 2021
I'm coming from using a 13" Silky ZUBAT, and that's the only hand saw I've used in a tree before, so by no means am I aware of all the competing products.

So first off, the price point of $30 made me skeptical when considering the competing products are selling for more than twice that. I was also a bit unsure of the seemingly extreme angle between the hand-grip and the blade. Both of those concerns have been laid to rest after having used it now. This thing is great. Build quality and factory sharpness are on par with the ZUBAT.

The one thing I didn't like, that I couldn't have anticipated, was that you really can't casually slide it into the sheath it comes with. If you don't line it up perfectly, it binds up, and either won't go in, or comes out rough. That was actually a pretty big bummer, because you really don't always have the leisure to play a game of operation out on a limb with one hand holding your line.

Aside from that, you can see that it doesn't have the little nub on the end that makes it easy to yank down suckers and deadwood.

Not a five star product yet, but I don't think anyone else can touch this thing in terms of price to performance. I really don't miss the ZUBAT. Save your money, buy one of these instead.
Pros
  • Build quality
  • Factory sharpness
  • Price
Cons
  • Sheath kinda blows
  • No yanking nub at the tip (lol)

So Far a Great Hand Saw
September 29, 2019
For the price and quality of the saw/scabbard will be hard to beat. After using saw in real tree service work for a few days now, it has been great. Comparable to the Silky brand, but only time will tell of longevity of saw sharpness. Overall, I probably would go ahead and buy 2, given that it's only 25 bucks.

Samurai Ichigeki 13" Curved Saw - #C-330-LH
July 8, 2019
2nd one. I really like this saw. I only bought it again because I couldn't find the scabbard alone. I snapped it getting in my truck. It clips off easy I was just tired and not thinking about it.

Silky level, half the price
February 14, 2019
Superb cutter. Maybe not quite as good as Silky, but very close, and at less than half the price, the perfect choice. Holster is less hefty than Silky, so easier to keep on the belt.

An Edge Unlike any Other!
January 3, 2019
I purchased two of these saws as a gift for my parents, who live on a farm. My family has a background in horticulture, beginning with growing flowers, operating a tree nursery, performing landscaping and industrial / commercial grounds maintenance, running a retail garden center, and finally farming and ranching in "retirement". My parents heat their home primarily with wood cut on their property.

My father said he has never seen a saw blade with an edge like these! The saws arrived just in time for him to use trimming a beloved pear tree that is reaching the end of its life span after giving us joy and "Indian" pears for 45 years. My Dad also likes the name "Samurai"!

I bought two saws initially for evaluation purposes; I will buy more after obtaining my father's professional evaluation. I am a happy new customer!
Pros
  • Excellent blade!
Cons
  • I strongly prefer American-made products. However, I appreciate the quality of "Made in Japan"! I would not have purchased the saws if they were of Chinese manufacture.

Easier Fruit Tree Pruning
November 26, 2018
This is one of the best pruners I found for fruit trees. The blade size and shape allows me to make my cuts precise. The ease of cutting makes pruning a small orchard less work. I am glad I made this purchase.
Pros
  • Ease of cut through teeth design
  • Precise cutting due to shape and size
Cons
