Grabs for Both Rope and Cable
Capital Safety is known as one of the premier manufacturers today when it comes to rope and cable grabs. In particular, their cable grabs are exceedingly popular with those that climb wind turbines and communications towers. Their original Lad-Saf cable grab is no longer available (please see the recall notice at right), but they do have two newer versions that have replaced it and are already quite popular. Check out the Lad-Saf X2 (which works with 5/16" and 3/8" cable, and the Lad-Saf X3 (which is for 3/8" cable only). Both of these models sport several new design features making them even safer and easier to use than the original Lad-Saf model.
Choosing the Right Climbing Harness
Keep in mind that these cable grabs are designed for use with vertical cable ascent and descent systems, which means they must attach to your chest. One harness that has a front chest D-Ring (aka "sternal D-Ring") is the #1191723 Protecta PRO Vest-Style Climbing Harness. It's a great budget harness for those that plan to do minimal climbing. But if you plan to climb more often, or if you simply want a more comfortable harness with all the bells and whistles, then we recommend the #1113079 DBI Sala ExoFit NEX Vest-Style Harness. This harness incorporates all the latest features and comfort padding, plus hip D-Rings for positioning work, making this harness more versatile than the #1191273.
