I am looking for a heavy duty 3/16" cable. 4200 lbs Breaking Strength seems enough but I really need a WLL of maybe 1700 lbs...?
1 Answer
For wire rope, generally you want a safety factor of 5:1. So if you want a 1700 lbs Working Load Limit (WLL), take that number x 5 which = 8500. This would put you into 5/16" Cable. Of course you are free to engineer your system as you see fit, and that means choosing your own safety factor. 5:1 is simply the industry standard with wire rope.
