These thimbles are made in the same pattern as Crosby's G-414 Extra Heavy Galvanized Thimbles
, yet these are made from 304 stainless steel. They are the best choice and highly recommended for use in corrosive environments, including marine, wastewater and food handling. When wire rope slings are used with shackles, hooks and other rigging attachments, the inside wires of the eye tend to wear more quickly, which is why thimbles play such an important role. They help to protect the eye of a wire rope sling (can also be used with other slings, including spliced soft ropes) from excessive wear, and also help to maintain a proper D/d ratio by preserving the shape of the eye--thimbles help to reduce elongation of the eye. Typically, slings that use thimbles achieve a greater service life than those without thimbles installed.
