Material Handling Baskets & Skip Pans--What Are They?

Posted by Nick on Apr 25th 2023

Skip pans and material baskets are both used for material handling, but they are designed for different purposes and have different features.  In this article we will help to explain their differences and how they are used.

SKIP PANS

Skip pans are large, open-topped containers that are typically used for collecting and disposing of construction debris, demolition waste, and other bulky materials. They have one sloped end and are designed to be lifted and transported by cranes or other material handling equipment. Skip pans are made of heavy-duty steel and come in a range of sizes to suit different applications.

To use a skip pan, the material is loaded into the container either manually or using a machine, such as a loader or excavator. Once the skip pan is full, it is transported to a designated disposal site, where the contents are emptied and either recycled or disposed of according to local regulations.

MATERIAL BASKETS

Material baskets, also known as material handling baskets, are used for transporting and lifting materials on construction sites, in warehouses, and in other industrial settings. They are designed to safely hold and secure a wide range of materials, including pipes, cables, tools, and other equipment.

Material baskets are made of heavy-duty steel and come in a variety of sizes and configurations to meet the specific needs of different applications. They are available with fixed sides, or one folding/drop side that allows for easy loading and unloading.  Both versions are secure and designed to prevent materials from falling out during transport.  Material baskets can also be equipped with casters for use in warehouse settings where the floor is smooth and there is a need or desire to push the baskets into position.

To use a material basket, it is typically attached to a crane or other lifting equipment using chains or slings. The basket is then lifted to the desired height and moved to the location where the materials are needed. Once the materials have been unloaded, the basket is lifted and returned to its storage location.

CONCLUSION

In summary, skip pans are used for waste disposal, while material baskets are used for material transport. Skip pans are generally larger and more open, while material baskets are smaller and designed for specific materials. Both types of equipment are important tools for material handling in construction, manufacturing, and other industrial settings.
