Product Description

What Kind Of Chain Is This?
This is Pewag's original design for security chain, which we have been selling for years now. It is surface hardened to 62 HRC Min. which makes it very hard to cut. This chain is in the "sweet spot" in terms of size and toughness, being much bigger than the 9/32" chain yet noticeably smaller than the 1/2" chain. This chain is extremely hard to cut (check out our YouTube videos) and works well for all kinds of equipment whether on the jobsite or at home. For urban environments, you may want to check out the smaller 9/32" size (think bicycles).

How Is This Chain Different From The 3012 Chain?
For starters, the 3012 chain is no longer available. It is actually a traction chain that was not originally designed for security with a plain finish that was vulnerable to surface rust. The 3012 chain is also bigger at 12mm in diameter. While this chain is hardened 10% deep, the 3012 chain is hardened 6% deep. From a cosmetic perspective, this chain is silver while the 3012 chain is black.

What About The Lock?
This is a true, high-security Viro padlock that was hand selected to work with this 10mm chain. It has a fully armored brass body with tempered, copper, nickel, case-hardened and chrome plated steel armor. It also has a hardened bolt--this is a true security lock. Its size is just right, because it's beefy enough to look substantial and intimidating yet small enough to remain portable and easy to handle. The lock itself weighs just under 2 lbs.

  • Square, case-hardened links
  • Cannot be cut with bolt cutters…square link shape does not allow bolt cutters to get a proper bite, which prevents them from cutting the chain
  • Requires tremendous effort to cut, a great theft deterrent
  • Electro-galvanized finish for corrosion protection
  • Chain Hardness: 62 HRC Min.
  • Heavy-duty padlock protects the lock pin from being accessed, forcing a potential thief to deal with the hardened security chain
  • Lock body is electro-galvanized for corrosion protection, very durable, heavy-duty design

What is the minimum size hole required for the chain to pass through?
1 Answer
This chain is approximately 1.38" wide (this measurement can vary slightly), so you would need a hole just slightly larger than that. A 1.50" hole means you're good to go.

Each PW-4126 padlock comes from the factory with three keys, and yes, replacement key blanks can be purchased here.

5ft of chain sleeve Italian Viro lock...what an awesome jewel-like set-up. Expensive? Yes. However, you get what you pay for. This is my first case-hardened security chain/lock purchase and won't be my last. Lock is very smooth and easy to operate; built like Fort Knox. Chain looks....well, for lack of another word, intimidating. It's heavy. Overall, very impressed.
ProsQuality of the products, ease of ordering, efficiency of delivery/packing.
ConsFor what you get? None.
